Statements and comments from the artist about his recent and past work.

Artistic statement

Part of my curiosity and investigation is to look beyond the conventional 'single viewpoint/stolen moment' framework typically defined by the camera. For many, the 'single viewpoint/stolen moment' is the end of the road in creative terms. For me, it is just the beginning.

My subject is reconstructing and re-examining an experience or memory.

When you first enter a place, your eyes move from one object to another. There is always a lot going on in any place you may visit. You are constantly moving around, and your position related to your environment is continually changing or adjusting. There is so much visual information that we cannot and do not capture with a single static image. We may try to remember a single vista, but that vision comprises many views.

By taking multiple views of a scene, I am attempting to recreate something more real than an isolated image, which is not how we experience things. I then reproduce them in a two-dimensional linear way, and the aesthetic gives the viewer a reconstructed experience of my experience as I walk into that place. Hockney mentions time when applied to productive picture making, and that quality is missing from photography. I found that very interesting, and how I work removes the reliance on capturing that single moment so synonymous with the medium. Mine is a very considered approach, and the opportunity to change, add, and remove is always present, which helps make the medium of photography extendable and, therefore, much more creative for me.

A reflection of the content and visual I produced as a Still Life advertising photographer. Charles Jourdan shoes and the classic Dior dress - both items still fashionable after these years. Originally photographed for Madame Figaro magazine.

The same image as part of the Revisited series - where I'm looking at ways to re-apply the visual qualities of older work. It becomes an opportunity to break out of the confines of the medium and experiment with reconstructing the constructed!
